Dieser Teil der Internationalen Norm 60794 gilt für Lichtwellenleiterkabel (LWL-Kabel) für die Verwendung in Telekommunikationseinrichtungen und Geräten, die ähnliche Techniken verwenden, sowie für Kabel, die eine Kombination aus Lichtwellenleitern und elektrischen Leitern enthalten. Der Zweck dieser Norm ist die Festlegung von Prüfverfahren, die der Aufstellung einheitlicher Anforderungen an die umweltbezogene Qualität dienen. Der Begriff "Lichtwellenleiterkabel" schließt in der gesamten Norm auch LWL-Kabelelemente, Mikrorohr-LWL-Einheiten usw. ein.
