Es werden alle notwendigen Informationen für die geometrische Bestimmung eines Werkstückes gegeben, die Ausgangsbasis für die Form- und Lagetolerierung und deren erforderliche Grundlagen sind. Behandelt sind die Grundsätze der symbolischen Darstellung und der Eintragung auf Zeichnungen von Form-, Richtungs-, Orts- und Lauftoleranzen sowie die zugehörigen geometrischen Definitionen. Der Begriff Form- und Lagetoleranzen wird als Oberbegriff für alle erwähnten Toleranzen angewendet. Weiters werden die Eintragungen in Zeichnungen erklärt und die Information über verschiedene zusätzliche Symbole gegeben.
