On the basis of ÖNORM EN 13493 and taking into account the specific geological conditions at a national level, the present ÖNORM defines requirements for the characteristics of thermoplastic liners used for sealing landfill structures and having a minimum useful life of more than 25 years. PE-HD (DB 1) is the only material permitted for liners that are used for sealing the bottom of landfills, in particular in case of residual waste and mass waste landfills according to the Landfill Ordinance. For other applications, such as capping, the other common materials listed under 5.1 may also be used.
